Standard Bidding Documents are the forms that accompany every government tender. Incomplete or inconsistent SBDs are one of the most common reasons bids are disqualified before evaluation.
Why they exist
SBD forms standardise the declarations every bidder must make, so that bid committees can compare submissions on the same basis. They are prescribed by National Treasury and used across organs of state.
The main forms

Where bids fail
Inconsistency between forms
The same company details appear on several forms. If SBD 1 and SBD 4 disagree on a registration number or address, the bid can be queried or rejected. This is entirely avoidable and happens constantly, because the forms are completed by hand under deadline.
Unsigned forms
Each form requires signature by an authorised person. An unsigned SBD 9 in particular is treated seriously, because it is a declaration against collusion.
Blank fields
Write N/A rather than leaving anything empty. A blank field reads as incomplete.
SBD 4 answered carelessly
This asks whether you or your directors have any relationship with employees of the organ of state. Answer it honestly and completely. A discovered undisclosed relationship is far worse than a disclosed one.
Practical approach
Keep a master document with your company details exactly as they appear on your CIPC registration, and copy from it every time rather than retyping. Most inconsistencies come from retyping.
